Daniel Scroop
Short Biography
Daniel Scroop's research focuses on the politics of reform in the United States in the twentieth century. He is particularly interested in the New Deal, the politics of consumption, and the history and historiography of liberalism. His book, Mr. Democrat: Jim Farley, the New Deal, and the Making of Modern American Politics (Ann Arbor, 2006), is the first biographical study of Franklin D. Roosevelt's campaign manager. His edited collection, Consuming Visions: New Essays on the Politics of Consumption in Modern America (Newcastle, 2007) was published last year. He has held fellowships from St. Anne's College, Oxford, the Rothermere American Institute, Oxford, and from the Hoover, Roosevelt and Johnson presidential libraries. He holds a B.A. and a D.Phil. in Modern History from St. Anne's College, Oxford, and an M.A. in Modern British Social History from Lancaster University.
