Theodore George

Short Biography

Theodore George’s interests lie in European philosophy after Kant. His research focuses on current receptions of classical German philosophy, on hermeneutical philosophy, and on the philosophy of art. He is the author of Tragedies of Spirit: Tracing Finitude in Hegel’s Phenomenology (State University of New York Press, 2006; pbk. 2007) and a range of scholarly articles. George is also the English translator of Günter Figal, Objectivity: The Hermeneutical and Philosophy (State University of New York Press, forthcoming; originally published in German, Gegenständlichkeit: Das Hermeneutische und die Philosophie, Mohr Siebeck, 2006). George is an Associate Professor of Philosophy and Ray A. Rothrock Fellow at Texas A&M University. He earned his PhD in philosophy from Villanova University and he studied at the University of Tübingen as a Fulbright Scholar in the course of his doctoral studies. He earned his BA from Whitman College.
