Anoop Nayak

Short Biography

Anoop Nayak is Reader in the School of Geography, Politics and Sociology at Newcastle University, UK. His interests are in race and ethnic studies; youth cultures; masculinities, class and changing gender relations. Anoop is author of the critically acclaimed ethnography Race, Place and Globalization: Youth Cultures in a Changing World (Oxford, Berg 2003), which considers the interplay of whiteness, gender and class in global times. His most recent book with Mary Jane Kehily, Gender, Youth and Culture: Young Masculinities and Femininities (Basingstoke, Palgrave 2008), examines the production, consumption, regulation and performance of gender on the world stage. Anoop has held a fellowship at Monash University, Melbourne, Australia, and previously taught Media and Cultural Studies in Liverpool John Moores University, UK. He holds BA in Literature and History, MSocSci in Cultural Studies and PhD in Cultural Geography.
