Silvia Rief

Short Biography

Silvia Rief is a Lecturer in the Department of Sociology at the University of Innsbruck, Austria. Her recent research focuses on cultural economies, in particular, the production, consumption and governance of urban nightlife. She is currently preparing a book on club cultures (Club Cultures: Boundaries, Identities and Otherness, Routledge). In addition, she has research interests in cultural sociology, urban sociology, the body, gender and sexuality. She holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of London, Goldsmiths College. Before joining the faculty at Innsbruck, she taught at the London School of Economics, Goldsmiths College, the University of Kent and the Open University, UK.
